The 2025 Cat 440 is powered by the all-new Cat C3.6 diesel engine, producing 130 hp (97 kW) gross power – a 9% increase from the previous generation. This engine meets U.S. EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emission standards using SCR technology and a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC). No derating is required up to 7,500 ft altitude, and the 416 N·m net peak torque ensures strong performance in heavy digging and lifting applications.
The load-sensing hydraulic system features a variable flow piston pump that automatically adjusts power to match the work demand. Operators get full digging and lifting forces at any engine speed, with auxiliary flow that can be fine-tuned for various attachments – including breakers, augers, grapples, and hydraulic quick couplers. The system also allows programmable loader bucket kickout and return-to-dig functions for increased productivity.
